Crime Victim's Compensation ("CVC")

We are proud to partner with the Texas Office of the Attorney General in providing assistance to victims of crime.  This program can offer assistance to victims by helping to pay for expenses incurred by medical bills, counseling, lost wages, relocation, or travel related to a criminal case.

How does the Program Work?
1.  Victims of violent crime, their families, or others who have taken on crime-related costs on behalf of a victim, apply for compensation.
2.  CVC staff review the application and other information to ensure it meets eligibility criteria.
3. CVC verifies a crime occurred, and it was reported to law enforcement.
4. CVC asks applicants to provide information about their crime-related costs.
5. CVC staff review information to see what crime-related costs can be paid according to Program rules.

How can I apply?  You may apply for CVC funds online, and many agencies provide assistance to victims in completing the application.  Our Office's Victims Assistance Coordinator, Lori Zinn, is able to assist you in this process, as well.  Contact our office to learn how we can help!

Texas Victim Information and Notification, Every Day ("VINE")

This automated system will automatically notify any person who registers via a toll-free number or website of a suspect/offender's status in custody, as well as any court event changes.  The service automatically notifies registered users in English or Spanish whenever one of the following events occurs:

1. Suspect/Offender is released from custody or transferred to a different facility;
2. A Court event has been created or changed; and
3. There is a change in custody status, such as death or escape.

You may visit the Texas VINE website for more information, or call 877-TX4-VINE (894-8463).  Our Office's Victims Assistance Coordinator, Lori Zinn, can also assist you with getting signed up or answering any questions you have about this service.
